Political Science

The political science major at La Roche University emphasizes the global nature of politics today. Our students develop a full understanding of political parties, foreign policies, western democracies and the historical evolution of the U.S. government.

Curriculum

You’ll receive a mix of globally oriented and American-focused courses in politics and government. Political science majors take three required core courses plus a one-credit applied learning independent study:

  • Political Philosophy
  • American Government
  • Comparative Government
Coursework is then divided among elective courses in the subfields of American Politics, Comparative Politics, Public Policy and Political Theory. As a political science major, you’ll complete 40 total credits: 10 core credits and 30 elective credits.

You’ll learn from skilled teachers and accomplished professors. La Roche’s political science faculty includes internationally recognized scholars who have published books and articles in their fields of specialty. These professors also have earned research scholarships, teaching awards and Faculty Fulbright Awards.

Optional Minor and Double Major

If you’re looking to add an additional area of expertise, the program offers the flexibility and convenience that you need to double-major. A large number of political science electives include electives required in the disciplines of:
  • Education
  • History
  • International studies
  • Sociology
